2 July 2022 Arrival and Exploration

Mt Kilimanjaro!

Arrival

After many hours travelling and waiting at airports for connecting flights. I am finally in Tanzania! WOW the time has come, and we are starting to walk soon (Tomorrow). After 2 years of waiting it seems this moment would not have arrived!

We have a debrief session with Sean today at 7pm. Its going to be very very interesting

The Day

Union Cafe

Today we went into Moshi, we had lunch and some coffee at a very nice coffee shop and then went cloth shopping just around the corner from where we ate and had coffee. It was super interesting.

Local Shopping

As soon as the locals realised we were buying something they swarm you like moths to a flame. It was not that I was scared in the conventional sense, but rather from a health and safety point of view. I did not want to get sick the days before I started walking!

The Blue

After we did that, we went to another shop ( we had to drive to this one. ) It was more of a “shop” then the previous shop we went to. The one thing that they sold, which I really enjoyed, was the art they sold. There was an artist called Sam, really hit a spot with me. There was a picture of Two Zebras. The painting was black and white rendition of two Zebras looking at each other. I am not sure what it was about the painting that struck a cord with me, but I really do think the Artist, Sam, would be able to paint an amazing picture of our cats. ( Both our males in the past recent months have passed away ) I have been thinking about them a lot, I know Monique is really missing them and if we can get all of our cats in a painting as a remembrance I believe she would really appreciate it. She would specially love to see her boys in a painting.

After everything happened in the day I am very tired, the travel to Tanzania was long and I am now pooped! There is a saying in Tanzania (TFF) or something, where if you ask for something and they say it will be there in 20 minutes: if it is no there in 20 minutes, it will be there in the next 20 minutes…. repeat

The moment

I am very excited for this moment in my life. I have spent so much time in the last few days thinking and preparing for this moment, making sure I have everything and then questioning everything. Not realising what will truly happen when I am on the mountain
